❍ Hayao Miyazaki | The Art Of The Wind Rises ❀
❏ The Wind Rises is Miyazaki's love letter to the power of flight and imagination, an exploration of Japan's growing military might in the years leading up to World War II, and a plea for world peace and harmony in the face of destruction. This book chronicles the art of filmmaking, from conception to production, and features in-depth interviews with the filmmakers.
❏ Hayao Miyazaki (born January 5, 1941) is a Japanese animator and director. He co-founded Studio Ghibli with Isao Takahata, where most of his films have been released. Miyazaki most often worked in the genres of fantasy (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke), children's fairy tales (My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo), steampunk (Laputa, Howl's Moving Castle) and magical realism (Porco Rosso, The Wind Rises). He made cartoons for both adults and children, distinguished by bright and detailed hand-drawn pictures and frequent references to Japanese folklore, often with an anti-war or environmental subtext. His Spirited Away won the Oscar for Best Animated Film. Miyazaki also won an honorary Oscar in 2014 "for having a profound influence on world animation."
